“What I was immediately surprised by is the fact that some individuals started throwing the Ecumenical Patriarchate that the Tomos entered some kind of the spiritual dependence of the Ukrainian Church from Constantinople. Of course, it is the mother Church. We have a spiritual relationship with mother Church. This does not mean that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is dependent on Constantinople – it has a spiritual kinship with her, she recognizes the supremacy of the Ecumenical Patriarch as first among equals. But this does not mean that she has some kind of dependence on Constantinople. You mentioned Miro: Miro will be provided by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of the Kyivan Metropolitanate. This again emphasizes the relationship of the two churches. It does not limit the Church, but rather enables us to see that we are spiritually United with the mother Church,” – said the Archbishop, reports the “Direct”.
The Ecumenical Patriarch of Varfolomii signed the Tomos for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. It happened at a ceremony in Istanbul on 5 January.
