“We are not talking about unification”: Epiphanius made a statement regarding relations with the UGCC

At the meeting of the Synod also adopted a decision on lifting of anathemas from patriarcha Filaret and the Ukrainian Orthodox Autocephalous Church Macarius and the acceptance of them as canonical.

On 16 October the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has offered to provide St. Andrew’s Church in Kiev as a symbolic gesture to the permanent use of the Ecumenical Patriarch. According to him, such decision was agreed with the Church hierarchy and will contribute to the acceleration of the receipt of the Tomos of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

December 15, during the Unifying Council of Orthodox bishops announced the unification of the Ukrainian churches in a local independent Church. Its official name sounds like – the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The head of the DNC became the Metropolitan of Pereiaslav and Belotserkovsky Epiphanius: his candidacy was supported by the majority of bishops to the Unification Council.
