“Remember the first decision of Putin, if you forget the arrest of Gusinsky. You remember, right? The capture of the First channel. I’m a historian, I know all that well, I immediately see where things go”, is a relatively recently said Vladimir RYZHKOV , a famous politician from 1993 to 2007, the Deputy of the state Duma, the youngest Deputy speaker of the lower house of Parliament, then appointed by Boris Yeltsin to the post of Deputy Prime Minister, but soon resigned.

When I heard those words, Malashenko was still alive. But, today said the “MK” this politician about the situation in General and personally about Igor Malashenko:

– I first became acquainted with Igor Malashenko, when in the 1990-ies he worked in the group “Media-the bridge” and I was the Deputy of the State Duma of several convocations. Then I frequently visited NTV and very well recognized him. By the way, recently I again saw him, unfortunately not for long. It was a lovely person, very educated, very intelligent, very thoughtful. And very critical in relation to what is happening in Russia. It was a staunch Democrat and active supporter of freedom of speech. But when the persecution began against the company NTV, Malashenko, Gusinsky was forced to leave the country. I want to emphasize that they left not by choice, but because that was practically squeezed out of the country! Later, however, Igor Malashenko for some time has returned to Russia. He lived here for a while. But then he led a secluded life: apparently, too large for him was the risk of reprisals.

Sergei KARAGANOV, Soviet and Russian scientist and economist, in the years 1978-1988 as a researcher, then head of sector of the Institute of USA and Canada an SSSSR, currently Dean of the faculty of world economy and world politics, National research University — Higher school of Economics:

I knew Igor Malashenko and work at the Institute of USA and Canada (Malashenko worked in this academic institution from 1980 to 1989 – “MK”.), and later. Let me just say that it was wonderful man, very bright. It is a pity that he died.

Yevgeny Gontmakher,a Russian economist, Deputy Director for scientific work of the Institute of world economy and international relations (IMEMO), in 1994-95, the Department head of the presidential administration:

– I met with Igor Malashenko only a couple of times, and intimately acquainted with him were not. Very sorry for him: it was definitely a man of extraordinary and even outstanding!
