The Championships of Latvian and Estonian rally championship this season again started simultaneously – the race, which was held in the town of Aluksne in the North-East of Latvia. The crew of Valery Gorban and Sergey Laruns arrived at the start with champion on the unity boards.
In the two-day race format was written in a passage with ten special stages. Short first day was not eventful, and the Eurolamp WRT crew was the best in both the special stages and ended the day in first position overall.
But Saturday, January 19 (main race day), brought a spectacular fight for the win. First time on the morning stage confirmed the ambitions of Ukrainian-Estonian crew. At the equator the distance Gorban and laruns continued to lead, but at a dangerous distance approached the crew of the Norwegian Oliver Solberg and Briton Aaron Robert Johnston.
The second part of the final day of racing was held in a tight confrontation between the two international crews. At the last stage the fight for second interfered by an external factor – the tyre on the Mini JCW WRC Valery Gorban killed the intrigue in the fight for the victory. Ukrainian pilot eventually took second place, having conceded a victory to the crew of the Oliver Solberg.
The next stage will be held February 9 in Latvia, near the city Gulbene.
