To remember them all. Forgotten Ukrainian pop music

Ukrainian culture and still many and many to whom remains unknown. It’s like it doesn’t exist. In particular, unfairly forgotten were, and Ukrainian pop music.
Can you guess who owns these heavy guitar sounds. “Black Sabbath”? No! Maybe Deep Purple? Again miss. It is VIA “Smerichka”. The Song “Mountain Girl.” 1971. Yes. In fact, in the mid-sixties Ukrainian pop music did not exist in principle. In the Union, Ukrainian culture was to gopack, dumplings and folk songs. There is some pop music? God forbid.
However, were the so-called Ukrainian lyrical song. Say, “Ridna my mother” or “Two colors”. But the execution and arrangement of these works was very academic.

And there was this phenomenon in the capital, although it would seem, and in small regional center of Bukovina – in Vyzhnytsya. Vocal-instrumental ensemble Smerichka. Simply put – musical group. And they did the unprecedented at the time things were mixed fashion Western sound with Ukrainian ethnic motifs.
For Ukrainians, it was a breath of fresh air. It turned out that Ukrainian can be fashionable, modern. And nothing is worse for what you are doing in Moscow or even in the West.In 1970, Vladimir Ivasyuk wrote “Chervona Ruta”. His most popular song, which became really popular. But why “Chervona Ruta” song number 1? Ivasyuk then, apparently, did not know that “Ruta” will go beyond music and will become a separate cultural phenomenon, a real symbol of Ukraine.
Even more surprising was that the song became a hit all-Union. In 1971, the Central television in the program “song of the year” Volodymyr Ivasyuk, Nazariy Yaremchuk and Vasyl Zinkevych three voices sing “Chervona Ruta”. Ukrainian music, Ukrainian word Soviet sounds in the air. Incredible. The musicians had to compromise with the Soviet government and ourselves. The repertoire should be “ideologically correct composition.”

For example, in one of the albums “Smerichka” includes the song “We go further” with the refrain: “We korchagintsev units, the Long path will continue, Stubborn, sure, tireless, Parents glory multiply”. And it is hardly necessary to condemn them for it. Without this Komsomol delusional to get on the big stage was unreal. And the guys were a winner as well, and the audience. Songs of the center has been at the forefront of the Ukrainian. They sang at home, played at dances, played on radio and TV. Ivasyuk becoming the top musician and one of the most popular Ukrainian at the time.
Such popularity could not remain outside the field of view of the Soviet government. The center is interested in special services. And according to one version, it is the “KGB men” hung genius in Briukhovychi forest near Lviv. Then, in 1979, announced that it was suicide.
And although the Soviet regime murdered Volodymyr Ivasiuk, but his songs are alive and so far. He did, without exaggeration, a revolution in the Ukrainian culture, has given it a new breath. Creativity center was the Foundation of our modern music. And then, in 1970, the impetus for the emergence of new pop bands and musical experiments.
Petrunenko long grass. Persecuted for his work and position. He was forced to move to Russia, where he wrote and performed songs in Russian. Fortunately, in the late 1980s, the musician returned home. And in the early 1990s took shape as a solo singer. Its “Ukraine” became the unofficial anthem of our country.

But back in the 1970-ies. At that time, to collect VIA and sing in Ukrainian – did not seem something extraordinary. As well as to experiment with sound. For example, the Kiev VIA “kobza” first produced electronic sound of Ukrainian folk instrument. The repertoire of “kobza” was the song of another iconic figure of that time – the composer, poet and artist Nikolai Brain. The man whom many of his colleagues disliked for the candor and frankness. But not like his creativity was impossible.
First, the Brain worked as a songwriter and artistic Director of several ensembles. And from 1971 until 1994 he was a soloist of Ukrconcert”. The real fame came to the Brain in 1979. When Sofia Rotaru performed his song “Ridny Krai”.
Another important team of the time – “Trio Marenych”. The group with the original presentation and interesting geography. Based in luck with krivorozhan Valery Marenica. Antonina, his wife, Svetlana, her sister, is ethnic Russian. Born and raised in Kuybyshev, now Samara. And known to become due to the Ukrainian songs.

Cool things happened in Lviv. How here not to remember VIA “Arnica”. Then you and the rock, jazz and even disco. At the time the group sang Victoria Brady, later known as sister Vicky. The drums Laban Michael Lundin – later one of the Brothers Gadiukiny. And the music Director was Yuri Varum, the father of Russian singer Angelika Varum. Well, Arnica – Arnica is not without Victor Morozov.
Another epicenter is, of course, Lviv VIA “Vatra”. The first Association here – Igor Bilozir. But before he joined the band and became its leader, the musicians played a specific and fairly complex music. Did not of Ihor Bilozir in 2000. He was beaten to death for having allegedly interfered with their songs to listen to Russian prison. He was killed in the heart of the city. The Ukrainian song. Bilozir and Ivasiuk, a lot of things not yet done.

But what he left behind is a real treasure. And ex-wife of Igor, Oksana Bilozir, not least because he was held as a solo singer. Now a lot of those songs and even entire communities just forgotten. Their elementary nobody knows. In addition to musicologists and fans. Which is a pity. Most have no idea how this is a deep and valuable reservoir of Ukrainian culture. The true Ukrainian culture.
