Previously, the Church has equated gay marriage to apostasy

The Mormon Church has announced that it will now allow the baptism of children of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, regardless of whether the Church parents.

The decision takes effect immediately, said the organization, which is officially called the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints.

“Previously, our doctrine has characterized same-sex marriage between members of the Church as the apostasy, – reads the statement of the Church. – Although we continue to believe such marriages are a serious misdemeanor, they will no longer be considered to be apostasy in the context of Church discipline.”
