The mayor of Seattle ed Murray (Ed Murray) announced on 12 September he would retire after the fifth man came against him, accusing him of sexual abuse.

The politician has faced numerous allegations of sexual abuse against children in the 1970-ies. After the 5th man sued him in the court, Murray has decided to resign on Wednesday, saying that the destructive claims become a distraction that threatens to undermine the ability of city government to serve its citizens.

The announcement Tuesday came a few hours after the Seattle Times announced new charges against 62-year-old Murray on sexual violence against family member in the mid 70-ies. This relative, a cousin of the mayor, was the fifth person who publicly accused him of rape.

Murray continues to deny the accusations, saying that his progressive political record and promotion of homosexual rights made him a target for those who decided to destroy it. Approval of his cousin stem from “bad relations between the two distant wings of the family,” said Murray.

“Although the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal problems do not affect the ability of our city government to conduct public business,” – he said in an official statement on the occasion of the resignation.
