Russia wants to force Ukraine to abandon their legitimate rights of passage of ships through the Kerch Strait to Annex more and the sea of Azov.
This was stated by the Minister of defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak on air of one of Ukrainian TV channels.
He noted that the goal of Russia, which organized the provocation in the Kerch Strait, the task was to provoke the Ukrainian sailors, so they started to shoot back. In the Kremlin the opportunity wanted to use in order to start an open aggression against Ukraine.
And the second purpose is to stop us from passing through Kerch Strait to sea of Azov, and so to actually spend more and the annexation of the Azov sea. Such a step we never will agree. Any piece of its territory, we will not give up,
– said Poltorak.
The Minister once again stressed that Ukraine will not abandon its legitimate right to pass through the Kerch Strait, which meets all international obligations of Maritime law and international treaties.
What happened in the Kerch Strait ?
25 Nov in the Kerch Strait the Russian border guard ship rammed the RAID tug of the Ukrainian military. After that, the Ukraine was put into 10 regions martial law until December 26. In addition, 30 November Ukraine has banned the entry into its territory of male Russian citizens aged 16-60 years.
Russia also is not the first month blocks in the Azov sea foreign ships, which were sent to Ukrainian ports. Because of this, the Ukrainian economy will suffer significant losses. December 26, the national security Council and defense of Ukraine approved the decision on introduction of sanctions against Russia.
