Russian authorities accuse the us company of violating the law on the localization databases
Roskomnadzor on Monday began an administrative proceeding against companies Facebook and Twitter for the failure of the Russian law on personal data, reported by Russian news Agency “Interfax”.
The regulator head Alexander Zharov said that the American the social network must comply with the law within one month, otherwise they face trial.
According to Roskomnadzor, Facebook and Twitter has not explained how and when they will fulfill the requirements of the law requiring to place in Russia, all the servers used to store personal data of Russians.
Over the past five years, Russia had tightened legislation concerning the Internet. Among other things, a law was passed requiring that the search engines were handed over to Russian security services encryption keys.
In April last year, thousands of people took part in held in Moscow protests in support of Internet freedom after the Russian government tried to block popular instant messenger Telegram, which refused to hand over encryption keys.
