The international court of justice called on Russia to fully implement the Minsk agreements, recognizing its side of the Minsk process, not a mediator.
Legal recognition by the International court of justice a party to the Minsk agreement on the settlement of the situation in the East of Ukraine, said the P resident of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
“The international court of justice urged Russia to fully implement the Minsk agreements. This means that Russia is a party to the Minsk agreements, not the mediator, as from the beginning she was trying to present themselves. Recognition of this, I emphasize, is not a political assessment, was first performed legal assessment that is extremely important to us,” – said P. Poroshenko during the meeting with the Minister of foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin, Deputy Olena zerkal and Deputy head of the presidential Administration Konstantin Yeliseyev.
The President also noted that the court’s decision “did not have any additional voting – neither the General Assembly nor the UN security Council”. “This decision is a direct action, it must be executed by any state member of the United Nations and for non-marked solutions will be provided for sanctions that really hurt any state that dares to ignore the marked decision”, – said P. Poroshenko.
The head of state noted that now it is necessary to focus on how to best represent the position of the Ukrainian state and to determine the state of the aggressor. He is convinced that this creates a mechanism of legal liability not to individuals, as they wanted Russia, and for the state as a whole, which should bear the responsibility for the financing of terrorism, violation of UN Convention.
“For the first time, and the key word here, for the first time, has been applied to the mechanism of the International court of justice to de facto accountability of the aggressor state, a state that funds terrorism. And for the violation of this Convention, we asked a question on attraction to responsibility”, – said P. Poroshenko.
The President also stressed that the court adopted an extremely important decision on the claim in the form of obligations of the Russian Federation to take several steps: from the restore functioning of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people and ending with ensuring the rights of Ukrainian citizens on the study of the Ukrainian language in the occupied Crimea.
