Olympics 2018: the Swedes remained without medals

One of the favorites in Olympic men’s ice hockey – Sweden – sensationally missed the semi-finals.

The Swedes did it again. They are again, having almost the most skilled squad in the tournament, peacefully and without losses passed the group stage and then lost in the quarterfinals of the German national team. Triggering the phenomenon of nakabalot Swedish hockey nation.

But what about the last senior world championship, you say? Who won it? Sweden won it. But even if she had not taken the gold, with eighteen NHL players, including Lundqvist, Hedman, Klingberg, Stralman, Ekman-Larsson, Backstrom, and Nylander Lindeskog.

The Swedes know how to win in the playoffs on only one occasion – when in my class they outperform all rivals, and preferably at the head. Ceteris paribus all the turns in their favor.

At the Olympics already developed a cycle of failures of the Swedes in the quarterfinals:

2002 – Belarus, Vladimir Kopat throw and error, Tommy Salo;

2010 – Slovakia (Yes, a very strong team who almost escaped in the semifinals with the Canadians, but the Swedes-Lundqvist, Kronwall, Lindstrom, Alfredsson, Backstrom is a young Forsberg (!), Daniel and Henrik of the Gray hair, Zetterberg);

2018 – Germany.

To beat the Scandinavians from the Olympics, had very mediocre but diligent and physically well prepared team Germany, where there are no stars even on a European scale.

And this is not surprising. This team “Tre Kronor” – the classic Sweden team in the bad sense of the word. In its composition contains many of the hockey players on the level of his talent were required not just to play in the NHL, but to play there at a very decent level: the same lander, omark are, Lindstrom. Someone like Moeller, Zakrisson or Petterson, a lower class, but carries a few light years of any German technology and others pure hockey qualities. In angelovska sense, this is a team of losers – those who did not have the guts and the will to make it in the best League in the world.

The Swedes tried to collect the maximum technical composition: from roleplayers in the attack is that Everberg with Lundqvist, took 17-year-old Dalina (albeit almost was not allowed on the ice). Znarok with the whole team “enforcer”, including Kablukov, probably smiles – he knew that some techies the Olympics is not to win.

And should be happy Canadians received unexpected covered silk road to the finals – just like in salt lake city in 2002-m to year. Sweden presented the Games with a strong story – even at the cost of self-sacrifice.
