The flag bearer of Ukraine at the opening ceremony of the Games in 2018, which will start tomorrow at 13.00 local time, will be the Olympic champion and Sochi in the relay and the captain of the national women’s team in biathlon Olena Pidhrushna.

As the press service of the NOC, so the choice was made by the athletes at the team meeting of Ukrainian Olympic national team in Pyeongchang.

– It’s nice that the team supported my candidacy – said Olena Pidhrushna. – It was my dream since childhood and so I am doubly glad that I had the honorable mission to carry the flag of Ukraine at the opening of the Olympics.

I want to ask every Ukrainian support Ukraine! Despite the fact that we are thousands of miles away from you, every soul, every smile, every joy will support us!

We will remind that from-for problems with health Pidhrushna the longest biathlon was delayed in Kiev and one of the last among all the Ukrainian Olympians flew to Korea. The first two races at the Olympics she will probably miss it.

It is noteworthy that Pidhrushna became the third representative of biathlon, which will carry the Ukrainian flag at the opening ceremony of the Olympic games. In Nagano, in 1998 the standard-bearer was Andrew Deryzemlya, in salt lake city 2002 – Elena Petrova.

In addition, Ukraine’s choice in favor of the veteran as a standard bearer as of Wednesday evening made another four countries – France (Martin Fourcade), Norway (Emil Hegle Svendsen), Lithuania (Thomas Kaukenas) and Romania (Marius Ungureanu).

Finally, note that yesterday in the Olympic village Pyeongchang hosted the raising of the national flag of Ukraine. This ceremony is traditionally preceded by official opening and symbolizes the readiness of the team to participate in the Games.
