Triumph of Ukrainian freestyler Alexander Abramenko ended yesterday in Pyeongchang competitions in ski acrobatics.
On his fourth career Olympics Alexander Abramenko finally jumped on the pedestal, and at its higher step. Extortion the day before in qualifying not only rivals, but also the bias of judges, 29-year-old from Nikolaev confidently overcome the first two of the final round, each of which was eliminated three participants with the lowest ratings, and then in the Grand final brilliantly executed a jump that never before in life at the competition did not.
This jump was Golden! As chief coach of Ukraine Enver Ablaev, who almost lost his voice, rejoicing in the success of his ward, “there are talented athletes, there are hard-working and extremely rare these qualities are combined in one. Alexander Abramenko is the exception!”.
24 AND THREE SECONDS
Someone might say that Ukraine was waiting for this moment for nine days, since in Pyeongchang fire Games in 2018, but in fact she was waiting for him for 24 years. So much has passed since then, ski acrobatics made its debut in the Olympic program in Lillehammer in 1994, and where the fifth was our Natalia Sherstneva. Since then, the Ukrainian freestylers repeatedly stolen up to a pedestal at arm’s length, but up to him did not succeed. In Nagano, in 1998 and fifth place went to Alla Tsuper, in consequence of which brought Belarus gold of Sochi 2014, the fourth was Tatiana Kozachenko, who continued to play until the Games in Turin 2006. But all that was happening around our team at the time clearly contributed to the growth of its results.
As told the participant of three Olympic games Kozachenko in conversation with the correspondent “SE” in a few minutes after the men’s final, “Sasha – a big fellow, and his medal is award to the Ukrainian freestyle for all that he suffered for many years.” That such is not lucky and as to fight it, could lecture and Stanislav Kravchuk, fifth place which is in salt lake city in 2002 remained the best in the Olympics for our men’s team on ski acrobatics up until yesterday in Bugbane.
Four years ago in Sochi, Alexander Abramenko was very close to surpass the result of the participant of four Olympic games Kravchuk. But in the end took the sixth place. Although it is possible that they could climb higher, if, six months before the main start of four years the former management team because of the unknown differences are not kicked out of the athlete with the overseas collection. In Ukraine, as we know, to train anywhere. Nikolaev complex of water jumps, where he started his career Abramenko, today covered with a thick layer of rust and more like a setting for a horror movie.
After Sochi-2014 at the helm of the national team was a participant in three Olympics (2002, 2006, 2010) and the first in the history of Ukraine, the winner of the world Cup (2005) Enver Ablaev. Under his guidance the pupil Yury Kobelnik made until yesterday, the greatest success in his career and won the Small crystal globe-2015/2016.
Knee problems (professional sore for all the freestylers) Abramenko started long ago, back in the Olympic season 2010. The doctors said that the increased mobility of the joints can be combated with special exercises, but the muscles of the knee will be kept only up to a point, and then still need surgery. That moment came in August of 2016, when Alexander tried to execute jump “two screw-screw-screw” to compete in the Swiss Mettmenstetten. And then, the operation and several months of rehabilitation.
– Thank God that it happened on the eve of the Olympics, as Stanislav Kravchuk before Vancouver. – said Abramenko, Otherwise it would have been a bust. And so I have enough time to recover and prepare for the Games in 2018. Besides relaxing mentally, which I have in recent years not been able to do.
Although in fact the athlete did not rest, and almost never climbs out of the hall. Recovery was not easy for him and the knee ached. “Then I first heard from Sasha any complaints and doubts,” – said the “SE” former comrade Abramenko for the national team of Ukraine Mykola Pazderka.
NOT HEAVENLY OFFICE
But with the beginning of the season, thanks to the patience of the athlete and the wisdom of the coaching staff doubts began to dissipate. The decision to play in the first two stages of the world Cup in China, and then to sacrifice the start in Moscow in favor of preparation for the Olympics, so as not to make a trip from across the ocean and back, looked quite logical, on the one hand, and a bit risky. Because of the fact that the leader of the Ukrainian team missed last season, he missed points in the Olympic ranking. But they managed to quickly recruit, qualify and even up in January on the podium of the world Cup in lake placid. These podiums could be two, but for some unknown reasons, judges are very modestly appreciated excellent jump Abramenko the week before in DIL-valley.
Lot of issues came to the court and after the preliminary competitions in ski acrobatics at the Olympics in 2018. Unlike the first workouts that freestylers performed to the accompaniment of strong winds on the day of the start of the qualifying in men, the weather was almost perfect, so the results were never as dense.
In the first round, where Alexander Abramenko with a jump “screw or two-screw”, was ranked ninth, it was still possible to find some logical explanation humble in a confident performance points – 123,01. Flight and form was good, but on landing, the athlete deeply sat down. But why for more expensive second version of “three four”, where the two screws went in the first flip, the judges gave slightly more, namely, 123,08, difficult to understand. The only thing you can complain about is bowed low, hands on the landing.
Thank God, points was enough to ensure that after completion of the second round from the fourth position to qualify for the final, where, by the way, were unable (or not given) to get the Olympic champion Sochi and our former compatriot Anton Kushnir. To last in the stands joined in the winner of the crystal globe-2017/2018 Maxim Burov and Vice-champion of the Sochi Games and a bronze medalist of the last world Cup the Australian David Morris.
Recall that since the last Olympics finals in ski acrobatics began to carry out the formula with the phased elimination of participants with the least amount of points. The only difference is that four years it was 12-8-4, and is now 12-9-6. Moreover, in all three rounds of jumps must be different. And this is how it seemed, could be the main obstacle Abramenko to the cherished goal. Triple somersault with four pirouettes in two versions he was stable, but the third is quite difficult for the big final jump was not enough. And because of the injury time to his training remained.
“WELL, TOUGH, STOP!”
Before the final bookmaker estimated the chances of Abramenko in the victory as nine to one, while the undisputed favourite of the considered Qi Guanbu. But for the last Olympics ended in the second round, in which he came out with the first result (127,44). Chinese landing was actually demonstrated element of ski ballet. However, it seemed that what he lacked in execution, kompensiruet authority. There it was. The judges chose two-time world champion (2013, 2015) athlete of the UAR, Ilya Burov, and closed six finalists (123,53 against 122,17).
Abramenko showed in the first final with a jump of “screw-two screws-the screw” a third amount 125,67, in the second, no less surely fulfilled the more expensive “three four” with two screws in the first flip, for which he received 125,79. This was equal to fourth place and meant that in the Grand final, where the participants are in reverse order relative to the previous results, it will jump to third after Ilya Burov and Maksim Krotov.
Both the representative of the UAR, and Abramenko, said at the Grand final of the triple somersault with four pirouettes in the third embodiment, that is to say “full-full-double full”. But unlike Alexander they had performed it in competition. Have Burov, who also was forced to miss the pre-Olympic season not only for sports injuries, but for injuries suffered in a car accident, the jump was good – on 122,17. But moles was wrong – 103,17.
“Good, good, tough, stop!” – will scream during the jump Abramenko were on the crest of Enver Ablaev. Later, the coach admitted to reporters that for a few minutes before the start of the super final, he asked his assistant Maxim Neskromnoe staying in the start zone near Abramenko, to transfer to the radio. “Don’t think about anything, don’t worry, just do what you do best, said ward Ablaev. – And then let others worry about the fate of all in its place”.
And so it happened. Abramenko demonstrated fantastic endurance, perfectly executed jump, at the sight of the marks for which 128,51 “Phoenix snow Park” roared with delight. It was just 0.7 points less than his personal best sample of the world Cup in deer valley in 2016.
The following two participants of the super final, knowing that with those jumps, they said initially (“ful-ful-ful” and “Blanche-two screws-the screw”), they catch nothing, go for broke. The only Belarusian Nadezhda Stanislav Gladchenko, as four years ago Kushnir, performed a triple somersault with five pirouettes, however, in a variant of his more experienced team-mate and champion salt lake city 2002 cha Alesha Valenta – “two screws-two screws-the screw”. Olivier Rochon of Canada decided to repeat the trick of “lay-triple full-full”, which brought to his compatriot Warren Shouldis gold 2011 world Championships. As the saying goes, he who doesn’t risk never gets to drink champagne. Champagne those guys can drink, but to wash them in it will definitely be nothing, because them jumping over the falls.
Had to speak to only one member of the Chinese Jia Tsunano – bronze medalist of Sochi 2014. Four years ago, he, too, risked saying “three five”, the failed and the pedestal rose it’s only because his teammate Qi Guangpu screwed up even more. Then, we will remind, in the Grand final competed with only four athletes.
This time 26-year-old freestyler from Fusuna said the same jump as was Abramenka, Burov and Krotov. Made him pay tribute, in anticipation of the second in the history of China gold in ski acrobatics (the first won in Turin 2006 Han Seopan) expected ratings. But when they flashed on the scoreboard, 0,46 hundredths were in favor of Abramenko. And it was not the second Chinese, and the first Ukrainian gold in the history of ski jumping, and for the entire Ukrainian team at the Olympics in 2018.
Today was a very hard competition, all jumping well, – said after the final in your comments UA Perche Alexander Abramenko. – Of course, in our sport it is very important to luck, but skill also has not been canceled. Just need this skill to show in the right moment at the right time, today I succeeded. I put my all into everything I could and I showed today – and took first place. I can’t believe it, it’s like a dream. I think tomorrow I will Wake up and will need to go to the competition.
On Friday was attended by women. Alas, the final was held without Ukrainka Olga Polyuk. 30-year-old athlete from Exactly, like the two previous Olympiads (20th place in Vancouver in 2010, 15th in Sochi-2014), stopped at the stage of training.
Polyuk said in the first qualifying round “ful-ful” with a coefficient of 3,150. And showed close to perfect performance. So in anticipation of the assessment even thought that the pupil of Galina Domovoi will finally beat your personal record – 85,05 for the same jump on the world Cup in China-2013. But the judge openly greedy, restricting the amount 82,21. It is equal to the tenth place.
In fairness, it should be noted that of the nine athletes who performed in the first qualification this variant a double somersault with two screws in the top six, which fell directly into the final, failed to reach no. This meant – in the second round you need to bet on complexity.
Olga took up the challenge. She was one of two athletes who have decided at the second stage of qualifying to go for a triple flip, “ful-so-ful” with a coefficient of 3,750. The second was her compatriot 38-year-old Alla Tsuper, four years ago ozolotilsya Belarus. The item more difficult, “Blanche-screw-screw” (3,8) swung only current world champion Ashley Caldwell of the USA. But for the latter, unfortunately as our freestylists, the risk was not grateful. Polyuk has not coped with a landing and got 55,50. So credit went first it more successful jump on 82 points, but it wasn’t enough to get into the final six, which closed on the result of the American Madison Olsen (her “full full” judge not stingy – 87,88).
And headed the Protocol after the second round with the amount 99,37 Olympic champion and Sochi 2014 Tsuper. Ex-Ukrainian has twice retired and came back twice: the second time – just before the start of this Olympic season, inspired by the success of the Australian Lydia Lassila, also second time became a mother after the Games in Sochi. But neither one of them was destined Friday to step on the podium. The Olympic champion of Vancouver’s “surrender” at the stage of qualification, and then said that this was her last Olympics.
Tsuper, having one of the most complex programs, confidently overcame the rounds. On the Grand final she left the jump, which earned her the Olympic gold four years ago – “ful-ful-ful”. But because of a strong gust of wind the experienced athlete are unable to choose the right speed and collapsed into the snow. Fell, however, not only she, but also three of the six participants decisive stage, but the judges somehow were more inclined to playing less difficult jump Panyu kun. In the end, she was ahead of Tsuper in the fight for bronze. And here’s another Belarusian-Chinese duel between Zhang Xin and Anna Guskova ended in favor of the latter.
