Yesterday at the Olympic toboggan run “Alpensia” Luge-men’s singles was replaced by the crews of twos.
In their one-day competitions consisting of two runs, was attended by 20 duets. Among them, one Ukrainian, which were already previously smelled gunpowder Olympic battles 27-year-old Alexander Obolochek from Kremenets Ternopil region and year senior citizen of Lviv Roman Zacharkiw.
These Champions of Ukraine on the same crew in the previous Games in Sochi in 2014 took 17 th place and 11th in the team relay, and Zacharkiw earlier in the solo finished 19th in Vancouver in 2010. Last year Alexander and Roman at the world Championships was 16th place, but recently in January in the European – was the last.
So some good results in Pyeongchang from this tandem did not have to wait. Especially close to the Ukrainians Igor Urbanski and Andrew Mukhin, who took seventh place at the Olympics in Nagano, in 1998. Well, the hopes were much more modest: to get at least the top 15 or if you’re lucky, a little higher.
And what? And that, in competition with 20 pairs in our both runs finished steadily… last. And lost even the 19th in the first race, the Russians and the second – Romanians pretty much at the base of the standards over a second. As earlier speakers compatriots in a single sleigh, and Obolonya Zacharkiw, mainly, summed up the unfortunate and most insidious of the ninth turn, when, do not fit into it, threw them from one side of the trough to the other, and lost the second, and more lag.
– Perhaps too alarmed, though, and sought to make all right, – said Obolochek and Zacharkiw press service of the NOC of Ukraine. – Of course, disappointed by this start. Tried in my head to lay only good races. I hope that tomorrow in the relay will be released. Tune into her…
By the way, the coaches of the national team of Ukraine adopted the decision that in the last Luge program the relay our team will be represented in the singles Anton Dukach and Elena Shumova, in pair – Alexander Obolochek and Roman Zacharkiw.
And on the podium after the competition crews-twos went up those three duets, which experts did the main rate. The Germans Tobias wendl and his namesake Artl, convincingly winning both races, became a three-time Olympic champion (Sochi 2014, they won gold in his crown and relay). And the first of them, won eight top awards of the world Championships, and the second – six. Their compatriots world Cup 2017 and the leaders of the General offset of the current series of world Cup, Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken in Pyeongchang won the bronze medals. But between the German tandem on the silver step of the podium wedged Austrian crew Peter Pentz and George fishler, the collection of awards four medals in the same world sample.
