The Nobel peace prize-2017 was a coalition of international organizations ICAN. On Friday, 6 October, the Norwegian Nobel Committee officially announced the name of the winner. Thus, we have to find out the name of another winner of the world’s most prestigious prize – for Economics.
The award of ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons – is translated as the International movement for the renunciation of nuclear weapons) has received for his work to bring attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons, and pioneering efforts in the field of preparation of the Treaty, which bans such weapons.
Part of ICAN comprises non-governmental organizations from almost 100 countries.
The Nobel Committee noted that thus want to force the nuclear powers to begin negotiations regarding the future rejection of some 15,000 nuclear warheads.
Note that the Nobel peace prize – the only prize of six, which is awarded in Norway – that was the legacy of the founder of the prize, eminent Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel.
In 2016, the Nobel peace prize, became President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos Calderon for “the determined efforts that ended the civil war in the country, which lasted more than 50 years.” And before that, in 2015, the winner was the Quartet of the national dialogue in Tunisia – a group of four public organizations of Tunisia, which became the Central force for building a democratic state after the revolution of 2014 in the North African country.
As you know, the Nobel week started in Stockholm on 2 October. On Monday, the Committee announced the names of Nobel laureates 2017 in physiology and medicine. Scientists will receive the award for “discovery of the molecular mechanisms that control circadian rhythms”. We are talking about cyclical fluctuations of the intensity of various biological processes associated with the change of day and night.
On Tuesday, the Committee named the laureates of the Nobel prize in physics in 2017. They were Rainer Weiss, Barry K. Barysh and Kip S. Thorne for the detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO detector. The existence of gravitational waves 100 years ago, predicted albert Einstein, and only now people were able to detect them.
On Wednesday the Nobel Committee of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the winners of the Nobel prize in chemistry 2017. Award scientists received “for the development of cryoelectronic of high-resolution microscopy to determine structures of biomolecules in solution”.
Thursday, October 5, was named winner of the Nobel prize for literature. Them was the British writer of Japanese descent Kazuo Ishiguro – as a writer “who in novels of great emotional power revealed the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world.”
On 9 October the Nobel Committee awarded the prize of the Swedish national Bank for economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel – the last of the six most prestigious awards.
The ceremony of awarding the winners in 2017 will be held on December 9 in Stockholm (except the peace prize – it is awarded on 10 December in Oslo).
