Story:

1674 – in the Kiev-Pechersk printing house released the first short history of Ukraine “synopsis”.

1764 Russian Empress Catherine II abolished the Hetman in Ukraine.

1792 – in Vienna, 22-year-old Ludwig van Beethoven took the first lesson in music composition from Franz Joseph Haydn and paid for it (in modern terms) 19 cents.

1818 – in Poltava was opened the Institute for noble maidens.

1901 – In the UK based Association of table tennis.

1961 – in the U.S. launched into orbit the world’s first Amateur satellite OSCAR-1.

1963 – Kenya gained independence from great Britain.

1985 – crash of Arrow Air flight 1285, a Douglas DC-8 crashed near gander, Newfoundland, killing 256, 248 of whom were U.S. peacekeepers returning after the mission in the Sinai Peninsula. The largest crash in Canada.

1990 – by the decision of the 14th session of the UNESCO intergovernmental Committee in Banff (Canada) in the list of world heritage of UNESCO under No. 527 introduced the first Ukrainian object called “Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kiev and the surrounding monastic buildings, Kiev-Pechersk Lavra”.

1996 – U.S. President bill Clinton was appointed Secretary of state Madeleine Albright, who became the first in U.S. history a woman is on this post.

2007 – in Dnipropetrovsk, began the trial of the bloodiest serial killer in Ukraine’s history (“Pology maniac”) – Sergei Decem. The court proved 29 murders. After the verdict (life imprisonment, 23 Dec 2008) weaver confessed to committing more than 30 crimes.

2012 – Began the celebration of the 850th anniversary of Notre Dame Cathedral (Notre Dame de Paris).

1994 – Andrew Sova, the Soviet film and theater actor, people’s artist of Ukraine.
