The sea level rise is accelerating around the world as the glacial plates in Antarctica and Greenland are melting. Thus, Miami can be flooded during the life of today’s American children.

According to the current rate of melting, the oceans the end of the century will rise by at least 60 centimeters, showed a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. For this reason, many cities could be flooded. In addition, tides and storms will intensify.

“This acceleration has the potential to double the total rise in sea level by 2100, compared to previous forecasts,” said Steve Nerem (Steve Nerem), the study’s author, Professor of aerospace Sciences at the University of Colorado in boulder.
