Now very “fashionable” to use various tools for personal hygiene. Argue that the fact that these tools help to maintain the balance of microflora in intimate areas, relieve dryness, irritation and discomfort.
Obstetrician-gynecologist Tatiana Rumyantseva said: means for intimate hygiene are divided into the funds with the acidic hydrogen index (pH) (about 3.5) and pH close to the pH of the skin of the intimate area (about 5).
1. Gels with acidic pH
Their doctors recommend the use of women suffering from bacterial vaginosis.
Bacterial vaginosis – what is it?
This infection, which occurs when too much of certain bacteria change the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina.
One study confirms that the gel with an acidic pH in combination with standard treatment of bacterial vaginosis helps to reduce the number of relapses.
But there are situations when such gels can deliver discomfort:
• inflammatory diseases of the vulva and vagina;
• allergic reactions in the genital area;
• damage after shaving/hair removal
In all these cases the acid will get to the inflamed/damaged skin, causing burning and pain.
Therefore, all women gynecologist advises to use gels for intimate hygiene.
2. Gels with a neutral pH (about 5)
To apply them or not is completely your decision. Neither harm nor benefit for intimate health they should not bring.
But the gynecologist says: no respected medical organization recommends that none of the gels for intimate hygiene of women.
Why you should not use the gel for intimate hygiene
But it is important to water treatments at least once a day.
