Dale Gardner spent in the open space of 11 hours

“Joseph Allen and Dale Gardner in space repairing satellites. These satellites are in space repairing not expected. It looks as if two porter tried to drag a 10-foot piano 9-foot door. Still, the case ended in complete success,” wrote the magazine 26 November 1984, about the astronauts, whose flight lasted 7 days 23 hours 46 minutes.

Dale Gardner was awarded the medal “For impeccable service”, the flying Cross of merit, medal “For space flight”

In General, the American Dale Gardner had two space flights: as mission specialist on the Shuttle Challenger-STS-8 and as a mission specialist on the Shuttle discovery-STS-51-A and two spacewalks.

It was a photo of captain Gardner was on the cover of gloss. The duration of flights – 14 days 55 minutes, 26 seconds.

Died Dale Gardner February 19, 2014 at the age of 65 years.

Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley may become the first astronauts who will carry out flight on a commercial spacecraft Crew Dragon. SpaceX plans to send them into space this spring.
