“Bo bude asshole” famous Ukrainians urged to go to the polls

As opinion polls show, the part of the population of Ukraine, mainly young people, do not consider it necessary to participate in the presidential elections. Because the number of famous Ukrainians urged citizens “not to sleep” the chance to choose a future and a responsible approach to its solution.

The results of the latest national survey conducted by Fund “Democratic initiatives” name Ilka Kucheriv jointly with the Kyiv international Institute of sociology from March 20 to 26, showed that in the presidential elections on 31 March are going to come 85% of Ukrainians.

Of these, 62% are confident and 23% will participate “likely”.

The least readiness to participate in the voting expressed people under 30 years old (unsure of its participation in the elections 49% and will be attended by “likely” – 25%) and the largest being over the age of 60 years (67% and 22%, respectively).

Ukrainians turnout in previous elections

Prominent Ukrainians call for those who want to ignore the vote, to change their minds.

So, journalist and Board member of NSTU Michael Schur (Roman Vintoniv) appealed primarily to young people.

“Do you know how many young people voted in the last presidential election? 30%. It is necessary that you are coming. Because you are illogical and unpredictable. Without fear you can say in the face what I think. And they are afraid of you for it… They don’t know what to do with you. Because you can hold them responsible for their words. Therefore, it is important that you continue not to go… Surprise these old mantises and dragonflies. So only after some time, the government will be forced to respect you. After all, you are the power. Go to the polls. Because there will be asshole,” said Michael Schoor.

The leader of the group “Okean Elzy” Svyatoslav Vakarchuk also recorded a video message about this, but he’s talking about all Ukrainians.

“The future, as the fate of the country in our hands. Let’s not fail those for whom freedom and dignity are not empty words, and the desired goal for which they gave the most expensive… Thousands of our fellow citizens, including young people, gave their lives and give right now in order that we could freely choose. Keep this in mind. Vote responsibly! Vote not “for fun” – said Vakarchuk.

The last phrase of a singer picked up by social media users began to upload their photos with the hashtag #Voloshynovskiy, and also to make avatars in Facebook with this quote.

In particular, the flash mob was joined by writers Serhiy Zhadan and IREN rozdobud’ko.

The leader of the group “Boombox” Andrey Khlyvnyuk on his Facebook page posted a video with the appropriate hashtag and asked his readers not to vote “random.” In addition, he added that “if you care about the future of our country, come and vote for whom you want.”

Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Svyatoslav Shevchuk, in turn, calls Ukrainians not to neglect the opportunity to cast their vote in the elections and not to vote against.

“I would really encourage – never vote against. For voting against you de facto vote against your future. And it’s completely unconstructive and irresponsible step. Obviously, we have no angels that are coming to power. 39 candidates, but must win one. So very seriously, you have to analyze for whom you will vote,” – said the head of the UGCC.

TV presenter Sergey Pritula on his page in Facebook for example has explained the procedure for changing voting places, if someone in the circumstances is unable to vote at his residence. At the end of the movie, he concluded that the need to vote each and be sure.

Also, don’t forget to take part in the elections, reminded and popular character in the Internet comic Goose. The Ministry of justice of Ukraine used it for a relevant application to the voters.

Do these ratings affect voter turnout?

As previously noted in the material of the channel 24, the assertion that the high rating of the candidates allegedly demoralizing the electorate of his opponents and they do not go to the polls, is unfounded.

First, in the Ukrainian realities, the gap between the leader and their closest rivals is not so significant.
Secondly, the supporters of the last-place candidates in General just do not want the victory of the candidate-leader. They retain the motivation to participate in the elections at least in order to prevent his victory in the first round.

However, such a history is possible: when one candidate, according to the ratings, leads, and part of his electorate simply chooses not to go to the polls because they are confident in the victory and “a single vote will change nothing”. Because such persons may be tens or hundreds of thousands, this logic can lead to the fact that part of potential voters and do not go to vote, what will help to defeat the candidate of the opponent.
