The carrier rocket “Soyuz-2.1 a” was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome on Friday to 9.36 Moscow time has successfully put into orbit the satellite monitoring of technogenic and natural disasters “Canopus-b-IR” and 72 small satellites . Among them was student spacecraft “beacon”, which is soon after dark, will be visible in the night sky, unless, of course, it will not be veiled by clouds.

According to project leader Alexander Saenko, the main goal of the project, in addition to the promotion of Astronautics and space research in Russia, is tested in a real flight aerodynamic braking device (is the reflector), which can later be used for data from the orbit of space debris. In addition, tracking the flight of the satellite in the upper atmosphere, it will be possible to obtain new information about the density of the air at high altitude. Reflector will allow students to perform another series of scientific measurements, comparing the calculations with the pyramid, the size of the apparent magnitude of various objects in outer space.

Sputnik “Mayak” weighs only 4 kilos and has a length of 30 centimeters. The longest side of the deployed reflector has a length of 3 meters and made of reflective metalized film with a thickness of 5 micrometers. During orbit, the reflector was folded up inside the satellite, and the orbit expanded, taking a predetermined shape.

This design of the spacecraft increases resistance in flight in the upper atmosphere (parachute) and thus increases the speed of descent of the object’s orbit. Due to this, the device will last in space for 1 month only.
