A slap in the face for NABOO: the West has threatened to deprive Ukraine “bezveze” and money

Attempts to drive Saakashvili into a corner for a time withdrew from the Ukrainian authorities on the background. First came the terrible “European Ghost” of the fight against corruption. On the night of 7 December, the EU, US and IMF said that if Kiev does not leave alone anti-corruption structure in the Square — NABU and SAP, credits and “bezveze” will be no more, and all the offshore accounts of President Petro Poroshenko put on hold, Ukrainian media reported.

The discontent of the West was caused by the attempts of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko to abolish the independence of the National anti-corruption Bureau (NAB). The situation had already used Mikhail Saakashvili, who demanded to bring against his foe the second criminal case connected with corruption.

A diplomatic row erupted after the December 6, heads of the largest factions in the Verkhovna Rada, the PPO and “popular front”, registered in Parliament a bill allowing MPs for any reason to dismiss the heads and members of all anti-corruption agencies in the country. The main attack was to come on NABOO, where staff work directly with the United States, including the FBI.

Recently the Department filed several criminal cases against high-ranking Ukrainian officials. In particular, under the court’s former head of fiscal service of Ukraine Roman Nasirov, who was accused of defrauding the state in the amount of 2 billion hryvnia, and the son of the head of the MIA of Ukraine Alexander Avakov, whom they blame in the theft of 14 million.

In addition, on 30 October, the NAB has started investigation against the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko, who is suspected of illicit enrichment. In response, the strongman accused the head of the Bureau of Artem Sytnik disclosing state secrets, and he has declassified the names of Agency officers under the guise. When it became clear that the part of fighters against corruption are the FBI, the attorney General said that they were never allowed to come to the Republic, and began to lobby for the abolition of the independence of the EMB.

The threat to the West stopped Lutsenko in step away from victory. As you know, the fight against corruption at European and Ukrainian templates — one of the main points for granting the country “bezveze” and credits. On the night of 6 to 7 December, the administration of the President of Ukraine agreed to withdraw the draft law on deprivation of NABOO independence from consideration, and was forced to be content with resignation of the head of anti-corruption parliamentary Committee Yegor Sobolev.

As a result of the scandal, the leadership of the FBI and the US state Department began to consider the attorney General Lutsenko undesirable person, and Poroshenko was forced to promptly adopt a law on anti-corruption court, which is actually blocked for several months. If Parliament can’t vote for him in the beginning of next week, the head of state after a maximum of 10 days will submit to Parliament a private bill.

Against this background, the flames decided to add the former head of Georgia and Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili. The disgraced politician, demanding the resignation of Poroshenko, December 6, took it to the NAB statement with the requirement to bring criminal case against Lutsenko and the head of the SBU Vasily Gritsak on the fact of abuse in order to prosecute their political opponents.

The Deputy head of the Ukrainian Institute of policy analysis and management Kirill Molchanov has told “MK” that is now waiting for Lutsenko and what will happen in relations between Ukraine and the West:

— In connection with the aggravated confrontation between the NABOO and the GPU Saakashvili decided to make fun of Lutsenko, but himself a former Governor of the Odessa region in this conflict has no meaning. Although the outcome of the struggle in the higher realms it is, of course, tries to take for itself some bonuses.

There are reasonable claims of the West to the Ukrainian authorities in connection with the pressure on the anti-corruption Bureau. The situation has reached the point that Poroshenko if he wants to normalize relations with the European Union and the United States, will have to dismiss Lutsenko. Although the initiator of the whole epic is not a public Prosecutor and presidential administration that wants to disarm NABOO, so the Verkhovna Rada will continue to take appropriate attempt.

The ruling elite of Ukraine plunges into the horror of the mere fact that someone is interested in her shenanigans, not to mention litigation. When creating a Bureau Poroshenko had hoped to put it in the window and safely forget about its existence, but the West put an end to these plans.
